BIOGRAPHY

Filipe Cunha Monteiro Lopes was born in Porto in 1981. 

Began his studies in trumpet in Banda Marcial da Foz do Douro in 1992, where he was conductor between 2005 and 2007. 

He joined the School of Music Óscar da Silva in 1994 where he studied with José Ferreira, Manuel Azevedo and Manuel Nunes. In 2002 completed a course in Conductiong Brass Bands organized by INATEL. 

In 2003, he graduated in the Basic Education, variant Music Education in School of Education of Porto (ESEP). In the same year joined the School of Music and Performing Arts (ESMAE) where he attended the classes of teachers like Luís Tinoco, Fernando Lapa, Dimitris Andrikopoulos, Clarence Barlow and Carlos Guedes. In 2006\2007 attended the Erasmus program in England at Dartington College of Arts in the class of David Prior and Chris Best.
In July 2007 he graduated in Composition in ESMAE.
In 2009 he finished the Masters in Sonology, at the Institute of Sonology of the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, the Netherlands, where he worked with Paul Berg, Kees Tazelaar and Joel Ryan among others. His Master thesis was about his own software to generate scores in real-time – Õdaiko.
In June 2003, with the band Big Fat Mamma, releases the album “Parece Difícil” by the label Universal Records. As trumpeter and member of HornFlakes, he has participated in recordings and live performances of bands like Mão Morta, Hot Steppers, Funkalicious, Expensive Soul, Os Azeitonas and Phalasolo.
In 2006 he was awarded the first prize of Best Experimental Audio, with the piece “Blackanddekker”, integrated in the Festival Audiovisual “Black & White.” 

Between May 2007 and June 2007 he was the resident composer at the LEC (laboratory Electroacoustics of Creation) in Miso Music Portugal and its piece “Caldo Kenong” was premiered on 4 April 2008, in Lisbon.
Since April 2007 he collaborates with the Educational Services of the Casa da Música – Porto – and he is a member of Factor E.
He was guest teacher at ESMAE between 2009 and 2011.
Its compositional activity embraces different music including electronic and instrumental music for Theater, Film, Dance and Multimedia Installations. His works were performed in Oporto, Lisbon, Dartington, The Hague among others places.

Currently he is the curator of Digitópia and Phd student in Digital Media, at Faculty of Engineering of Porto.
